Works for Me Wednesday -- Toddler Nutrition
Toddlers aren't the best eaters. Most moms worry about their kids' nutrition. I don't stress over how many veggies my daughter eats or fight to get a lead-laden vitamin in her daily because I know she is getting a good dose of the nutrition she needs from mommy's milk.(from Kelly Mom)
- In the second year (12-23 months), 448 mL (that's about 15 ounces) of breastmilk provides:
- 29% of energy requirements
- 43% of protein requirements
- 36% of calcium requirements
- 75% of vitamin A requirements
- 76% of folate requirements
- 94% of vitamin B12 requirements
- 60% of vitamin C requirements

thanks for reminding me of so many nutritional benefits. I am still nursing my youngest of 3 daughters. She is 23 months and no sign of her wanting to stop. Typing one handed right now in fact ;) My middle dd nursed until 26 months so long term isn't new to me.
Thank you for this post on nursing. I am an avid nurser and feel very very strongly about it.
Thanks for posting. My doctor acted like I was nuts for breast feeding past 12 monhts. Luckily I knew the benefits and my child didn't quit till he was ready.
Thanks so much for the reminder! My little guy is 16 months and still nursing, and sometimes I think I want to wean him soon. But he still enjoys it so much. It helped me to read those statistics. I just wish I was one of those breastfeeding moms who loses weight while breastfeeding! I won't be able to fit back into my old clothes until he's weaned (nothing new...worked the same way with my daughter!)!
I quit nursing my son at 12 months but now that I'm nursing our second child my son sometimes gets pumped breastmilk in his cereal, especially in the winter with all these germs flying around. Thanks for the nutrition info!

I totally agree! I would have been very concerned about nutrition my dd's second year of life if she had not been nursing, especially considering she couldn't tolerate cow's milk very well so that wasn't an option for us.
